Dr. Mandelbaum brings invaluable experience in government and industry defense work to the ARM Board
May 14, 2020 – The ARM Institute has welcomed Dr. Robert Mandelbaum from Lockheed Martin to its Board of Directors. Dr. Mandelbaum is the director of the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL), where he leads a group of applied research labs that help the corporation maintain technical leadership. In addition to his vast experience in industry, Dr. Mandelbaum has also worked in relevant government technical roles.
Prior to his current role at Lockheed Martin, Dr. Mandelbaum served as ATL’s Chief Technology Officer, where he led the technical direction and managed independent research funds. In that role, he served as a technical liaison to groups including the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Before joining ATL in September 2010, Dr. Mandelbaum served as a program manager at DARPA. There, he managed programs in the Information Processing Techniques, Tactical Technologies, and Transformational Convergence Technology offices. He initiated new programs such as Legged Squad Support System (LS3), and Autonomous Robotic Manipulation. He also managed a wide variety of other DARPA programs, including BigDog, LANdroids, and Learning Locomotion.

Dr. Mandelbaum was an early supporter of the ARM Institute and served on our inaugural Stakeholder Executive Committee (SEC), working to represent the needs of the ARM Membership and aid in guiding organizational priorities.
