We’re less than a month away from our Annual Member Meeting! Taking place in Pittsburgh, PA Nov. 5-7, this member-exclusive event connects our national network to innovate robotics technologies, assert U.S. leadership in manufacturing, and address the workforce gap.
In prior weeks, we’ve highlighted various reasons to attend. This week’s reason centers on our Education & Workforce Development break-out session. This session is concurrent with our Technology break-out; as a note, we encourage member organizations to send at least two representatives to have complete representation on both the Tech and EWD sides of ARM, taking full advantage of your membership.
Reason to Attend #8: Education & Workforce Development Break-Out Session
Our Education/Workforce Development session will take place on November 7 from 9:00AM until Noon. The session will start with a networking breakfast, providing ample time for project teaming for our second Education and Workforce Development Project Call announced earlier this month. During this session, we’ll answer your questions about the project call, both the content and the process for submitting proposals. For proper background, we encourage anyone who is interested in submitting a proposal for this call or have a general interest in our ongoing EWD efforts to register for our project call webinar. You can also click here to view our pre-solicitation notice.
Additionally, we’ll have two distinguished speakers presenting.
Ron Painter:
Ron Painter joins us from National Association of Workforce Boards where he serves as the CEO. He’s also a critical member of our Education and Workforce Development Advisory Committee (EWAC) and will provide an overview of the workforce ecosystem as it relates to the Workforce Investment Boards. Painter was the founding CEO of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board in Pittsburgh, where under his leadership the organization focused on producing labor market research, working with public educators on improved student career information, supporting community leaders in the development of regional benchmarks, and establishing the Regional Workforce Collaborative with a membership of community colleges, WIBs, employers, labor, and economic development professionals. Before joining the Three Rivers Workforce Board, he worked in Washington, DC, first on loan to the U.S. Department of Labor for the Enterprise Project, and then for the National Alliance of Business
Mark Johnson, Ph.D:
Mark Johnson, Ph.D. also comes to the Member Meeting as a distinguished speaker, providing an overview of the Federal Ecosystem. Dr. Johnson is the Director of the Clemson University Center for Advanced Manufacturing. Dr. Johnson was formerly the director of the Advanced Manufacturing Office in the US Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The Clemson Center for Advanced Manufacturing is an umbrella organization that brings together several Clemson initiatives that are focused on research and education important to advanced manufacturers. Those initiatives include the Vehicle Assembly Center, the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Center, the Clemson Composites Center, Product Life Cycle Management, the Clemson University Center for Workforce Development and the Center for Aviation and Automotive Technological Education Using Virtual E-Schools.
