ARM Announces Chuck Brandt as Deputy Director, Technology Development.

October 12, 2018

Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Announces Chuck Brandt as Deputy Director, Technology Development.

PITTSBURGH, PA – October 9, 2018 – Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) today announced that Chuck Brandt, Ph.D. has joined the organization as Deputy Director, Technology Development. In this role, Dr. Brandt will work with the CTO and other staff, as well as ARM’s 170 members throughout the United States, to execute the technical vision of ARM.

As Deputy Director of Technology Development, Dr. Brandt will support the creation and implementation of ARM’s technology investment strategy. Dr. Brandt will also assist the CTO in prescribing ARM-issued project calls and implementing strategies for managing the consortium-developed intellectual property derived from project results.

Dr. Brandt will also drive the formation of ARM’s robotics facility based at Mill 19 in the Hazelwood Green area of Pittsburgh, PA. This facility, developed over the course of next year, will contain state-of-the-art technology for ARM members to demonstrate and develop ideas, as well as facilities for use in education and workforce development activities.

Dr. Brandt joins ARM from Innovation Works, where he was the Vice President of Technology Programs. Prior to joining Innovation Works, he was the CTO at the Technology Collaborative, both Pittsburgh- based organizations. In these and other prior roles, Dr. Brandt has showcased his ability to coordinate technology initiatives of early-stage product development and university-based commercialization.

Dr. Brandt holds a Ph.D. in Electronic Materials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He has presented over 50 papers and holds 6 patents.

“Chuck brings a wide range of diverse knowledge and experience to the ARM team”, stated Byron Clayton, ARM CEO. “His prior experience, particularly his success working with government-funded projects and strategic planning, makes him a critical fit for ARM and a significant asset for our members.”

ARM members can anticipate meeting Chuck in person at the Annual Member Meeting, being held Nov. 5-7 in Pittsburgh, PA. This gathering, open only to ARM’s 170 members, acts as the cornerstone event for the organization with project updates, networking and project-teaming activities, and concurrent Technology and Education/Workforce Development specific sessions.
