New Special Project Call: DoD Point of Need Manufacturing Challenge

The ARM Institute, in cooperation with our fellow Manufacturing Innovation Institutes and OSD ManTech, is offering a project call of up to $1.5M to fund multiple projects under the MII Point of Need (PoN) Challenge from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Individual project budgets are not to exceed $0.5M. Projects must be executed in six-months or fewer with project demonstrations at the conclusion.

All participants must be ARM Institute Members. Project teams must include the ARM Institute as an execution partner. If you are not an ARM Institute Member, but would like to submit a Concept Paper, email [email protected] to learn more about joining. The full Project Call document and associated templates are available in the ARM Member Community. Log into the Member Community here or email [email protected] for assistance.

Please note this is a two-step proposal process. Step 1 includes a five-page concept paper and a quad chart and Step 2 is an invitation-only overview of presentations. All Concept Papers must be submitted via email by February 7, 2023. Concept Papers must be sent to [email protected].

Special Topic Area: Point of Need Manufacturing Challenge

This project call is focused on Point of Need Manufacturing Challenges and contains seven challenges on PoN manufacturing applications of interest to the DoD, which are briefly listed below and detailed in the Project Call document available on the ARM Member Community.

  • Build the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Challenge
  • Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) Challenge
  • Warfighter Medical, Health and Nutrition Challenge
  • Power Challenge
  • Cyber Challenge
  • Staying in the Fight Challenge
  • Other

Each challenge is based on a Class of Supply. Projects shall demonstrate the technology that could address the scenario and be deployed and performed in the required operational environment. Technologies will be demonstrated at a location chosen by the DoD within the continental United States that represents one of two operational environments – cold weather (i.e., arctic-type) or hot/humid.
