Ira Moskowitz Recognized by SME as Top Leaders Transforming Manufacturing
Ira Moskowitz, ARM Chief Executive Officer, joined the list alongside a number of ARM Institute Members and partners
April 6, 2021 – The ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute is proud to announce that Ira Moskowitz, the institute’s Chief Executive Officer, has been named to SME’s list of “Leaders Transforming Manufacturing”.
SME is a professional association committed to advancing manufacturing and developing a skilled workforce. In describing the honorees, SME noted “The need for leadership in smart manufacturing cannot be overstated: Making revolutionary changes can be arduous. But the leaders who have emerged in this industry show us it can also be exhilarating. To assemble this group of luminaries, Smart Manufacturing [published by SME] took into account the fact that big change is happening inside large corporations, startups, public-private partnerships, and standards organizations.”
Ira Moskowitz joined the ARM Institute in early summer 2020, steering the ARM Institute through the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the ARM Institute catalyzed robotics projects to mitigate the pandemic, developed new workforce solutions, grew its membership base, and completed several complex tasks remotely, including the institute’s annual Member Meeting.
Prior to joining the ARM Institute, Mr. Moskowitz served as Director of Advanced Manufacturing Programs for the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. In this role, he led Massachusetts’ efforts for manufacturing innovation and oversaw the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2), a $100 million economic development program affiliated with Manufacturing USA®. He has served on the boards of two DoD-led Manufacturing USA® Institutes, AFFOA and AIM Photonics, and has deep experience working directly with state and federal agencies.
Previously, Mr. Moskowitz spent 30 years managing global semiconductor technology development and manufacturing including wafer fabrication, assembly and test operations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, most recently as Vice President and General Manager, US Operations for Analog Devices, Inc. Mr. Moskowitz holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and International Business from the Stern School of Business, New York University (NYU), a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
“In many cases, the knowledge that we gain by manufacturing the products leads us to develop the next generation of innovations—because we learn so much about the products by making them ourselves. Maintaining a strong, smart manufacturing base domestically is important to our nation’s economy, its competitiveness, and its security,” noted Mr. Moskowitz, “Through this national consortium, we have accomplished dozens of projects to make robotics, autonomy and AI more accessible to U.S. manufacturers large and small, train and empower a smart manufacturing workforce, strengthen our economy and global competitiveness and elevate our national security and resilience.”
The ARM Institute is leading the way to a future where people and robots work together to respond to the nation’s greatest challenges and to develop and produce the world’s most desired products. One of 16 Manufacturing USA® Institutes across the United States, it is funded by the Department of Defense. The Institute operates as a national consortium of nearly 300 member organizations who are experts in manufacturing, robotics, and workforce education.
A number of leaders from across the ARM Institute membership consortium were also recognized on this list. The ARM Institute extends our congratulations to these members and partners:
- Sarah Lukens, Data Scientist at GE Digital
- John A. Hopkins, CEO of IACMI–The Composites Institute, a Manufacturing USA Institute
- Nigel Francis, CEO & Executive Director of LIFT, a Manufacturing USA Institute
- Juan Aparicio, VP of Product at READY Robotics
