Technology Development

ARM’s mission is to accelerate the use of industrial robots to drive growth in the U.S. manufacturing sector.  With a focus on key industrial sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, textiles, and others as defined by our members, we look for growth sectors that are ripe for rapid adoption of robotics in manufacturing. Vital needs of our members, discovered through member insight, industry research and roadmapping, are aligned with these manufacturing operational aims (MOAs):

  • Versatile robotic systems that are capable of performing multiple tasks
  • Rapid deployment and re-purposing of robots
  • Collaborative robots
  • Cost-effective solutions

We are seeking specific technologies which are beyond the basic research phase and are ready to take the next steps for commercialization. This is typically referred to as Technical Readiness Levels (TRL) 4-7.  Our members form project teams to focus on delivering solutions in priority technical thrust areas, as defined below:

  • Human-robot interaction
  • Scheduling, learning and control
  • Dexterous manipulation
  • Mobility and navigation
  • Perception and sensing
  • Testing, verification and validation
  • Mechanism design
